Seams to Me

Everyone is looking to keep out the heat out of their home !

We know it’s coming – those hot, humid, summer days!  What’s protecting your windows?  Did you know that a bare, double-glazed window allows 76% of solar heat to come through it?  During the summers, heat from the sun’s rays coming through the windows can make it harder to keep a home cool.  What’s going to keep the heat out of your windows - a plastic garbage bag, tin foil, an old comforter or blanket?  Energy-efficient window treatments can help decrease heat gain, thereby reducing cooling costs.  By adding drapery with special Insulated Lining or a Duette Architella shade by HunterDouglas, the solar heat gain coefficient can drop to as little as 15%.  That’s incredible!  Call me to get your home cooled off this summer.  We have hundreds of fashionable drapery fabric combinations, and a great selection of colours and opacities on Duette shades.  Let’s beat the heat together, and give your home a refreshing and fashionable look.

H2 SideOn a Personal Note

Summer is here, the kids are done exams, and we look forward to warm weather so we can splash around in the pool and relax with family & friends in the new gazebo!

Kasia and Tamara have always been involved in the business, since they grew up in the workroom.  They both will be working with me, as they do every summer; Kasia in the work studio, cutting and sewing, and Tamara with me in the client’s home installing the drapery and blinds.  It’s a great way for us to spend time together, and teach them the skills of the business and endorse customer relation-ships.

H2 SideROOM OF THE MONTH

Wayne and Tressa Flowers had added a new backsplash and countertop to their kitchen, but they wanted to replace their flooring. They had laminate flooring in their living space and old glossy tile in their kitchen that they could never quite keep clean. The Flowers called Wilma Kulyk for her interior design knowledge and expert service. Sensational Seams project management team painted the walls, re-modeled the living room, laid new hardwood and ceramic flooring, applied crown moulding and added new window fashions and Hunter Douglas blinds to the windows. The transformation was sensational giving their home a breath of fresh air.

"When Tressa and I thought about doing some redecorating, we started by simply putting a new backsplash and counter top on our cupboards. When that project was complete, we decided to call Wilma at Sensational Seams, who apart from being a former neighbour also had done some work for us in the past.
Well, after we explained our plan, Wilma as usual was excited. She was extremely helpful in selecting the new ceramic tile for the kitchen and the hardwood for the living room. We were very happy, but then decided that the old paint just had to go. Out with old and in with the new as the saying goes.
One thing lead to another, but Wilma kept up with everything we had asked and as it turns out we have an extreme transformation of our home that was within the budget that we were looking at.

A picture is worth a thousand words!!!"

Thanks again Wilma

Tricks to Brighton a Room

Not everyone has the luxury of having big windows that let in lots of sunlight. Many
apartments and houses have at least one room that is continually dark. A dark room can cause accidents, eye-strain, and even a sour disposition. If you’d like to add more light to your room – without taking a sledgehammer to your walls, try a few of these roombrightening tricks.
A brighter room will lead to a brighter mood!

Paint your walls a light color, and use eggshell or semi-gloss paint. Dark, matte finishes actually soak up the light, making the room seem darker – even when you put the lights on, but lighter, glossier paints will reflect the light back into the room.

Keep your ceiling white. It’s amazing the difference that a white ceiling makes on a room. Just like dark walls, a darkly-painted ceiling will absorb a lot of the available light.

Add more lamps. Yes, this seems obvious. But many homeowners rely solely on overhead lights to illuminate the room. Light needs to come from various levels – low, middle, and high. Combining uplights on the floor and lamps on tables around the room with overhead lighting will create a brighter, more comfortable room.

Hang large mirrors. Large mirrors can act like windows, reflecting the light back into the room.

Choose reflective surfaces. Just like walls, other large surfaces can absorb or reflect your light. Opt for glossy countertops, add glass panes to your hanging artwork, and place mirrored trays on top of dark tables.

Light is important for your physical and mental health. So make sure your home is getting all the light that it can get!
